Wholeness & Separation

Posted by Twylah Ekko on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, In : Sake

Gee, i've had a hard time starting out today post. I have no idea what i'm trying to say first. Lets see, this sake set is named Wholeness & Separation after an album by Halou. The shot glasses names are Tubefed, Separation,
Morsecode, Honeythief, Wholeness.

This picture is sorta makes me think of someone and their kids and the photographer is trying to take a picture but some of the kids are having a hard time settling down.

The bottoms of this set have been craved so that it creates a ste...

The Flying Ballerina

Posted by Twylah Ekko on Friday, September 18, 2009, In : Vases

I'm a bit late posting today - i fell asleep taking pictures last night. Right beside my tea cup holding the camera. (Now wouldn't that have been a funny picture)

Todays picture is of a cute little vase (i warned you they would be back). However this one is not super small like the series of them earlier. -Ha i just noticed you can see me really well in the reflection of this vase. I have on a BRIGHT ORANGE shirt :D

Deciding

Posted by Twylah Ekko on Friday, September 18, 2009, In : Miscellaneous

Today's post is a little light to help miu* find her way to feeling better ;)

With this particual vessel i had a hard time trying to decide (hince the name Deciding) what i wanted this to be. I started with a clear idea of possibly a spring box (Example of one of my spring boxes) but then i figured that i didn't leave enough clay at the bottom to do that - spring boxes are made upside-down.

So then i just had a large container - after it was leather hard, i did some slip trailing - and this i...

Levis, Guess, Frank and Christmas

Posted by Twylah Ekko on Friday, September 18, 2009, In : Miscellaneous

So these are in my fish tank. I made these first on the wheel then i added the little flat pieces later. They are named after my beloved fishes - Levis, Guess (these fish looked like they were wearing pants) Frank - he had pretty blue eyes - and Christmas because that fishy was green and a tiny splash of red with a silver streak (a very pretty fish).

Well i needed something in my fish tank and didn't like anything in the stores So i decided to make my own cool thing to put in there. Little b...

Now and Later

Posted by Twylah Ekko on Saturday, April 18, 2009, In : Plates and Bowls

These are two bowls hand thrown on the wheel and then altered. I love these two bowls. I think the picture looks almost like the shape was about to be a heart. They remind me of how when you love someone you like to get wrapped up in their arms. Their names are Now and Later. I have signed and named them both on the bottom. They are in my little Spot the Pot Shop now too.

I used White Stoneware fired to Cone 10 the colors are an outstanding Orange to Golden Brown, Grey with speckles, Deep Bla...

Opalescent

Posted by Twylah Ekko on Saturday, April 18, 2009, In : Mugs Cups Tumblers

I dedicate this photo to John, for it was an idea from him that my first sake set was born. This set is named Opalescent which is the name of a CD by Jon Hopkins (lovely ambiance music if you dig that genre) The names of the shot glasses are Halcyon, Grace, Apparition, Afterlife, and Elegiac which are all names of songs off of that particular CD. For my sets i like to sometimes name them after groupings (not sure if i said that grammatically correct) ~gift

Also my dear friend Kim inspired me ...

Me and Kitty's Delight

Posted by Twylah Ekko on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, In : Mugs Cups Tumblers

So i decided i needed a break from the vases, don't worry tho i'm sure there will be more in the future. Muhahahaha

This is me and it was one heck of hot sunny day, i decided to have some water out of my mug named Kitty's Delight and well i'm all finished the water by the time this photo is taken (after about the 10th time i got up to reset the camera b/c i couldn't find my remote for the shutter)

I came inside and wasn't tooo crazy about the SUNNY COLOR - it was just sooooooo bright, however...

This little gal is holding a blue balloon flower. I really dig on how the top of this one came out and is probably one of my favorite vases i made.

Splat

Posted by Twylah Ekko on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, In : Vases

So i had to revive this flower before my dear Splat (name of the vase) had its photo shoot. As i was deciding where to take pictures of this mini vase i had the flower sitting in a cup of water - just floating along (which then gave me another brilliant idea for a future picture) but back to this one. Soon the flower was all perky again and the image capturing took place.

The colors are a pale pink that changes to an off white with speckles at the bottom a bit of pale yellow also peeks out fr...

Posted by Twylah Ekko on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, In : Vases

This will be the first of many pictures of my mini vases that i have made. I figured i better take cute little pictures of them now, while there a flowers in bloom to show off in them. Although the August heat is beating the heck out of all the darling little flowers around here.

This vase is titled Any Other Name because i though in its abstract sorta top - it resembles a rose and that made me think of the sweet lines of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.

This is a very small cute vase only sta...

They all have african violets in them, however the other two have not bloomed yet - even tho their leaves are pretty and green. ~gift

I did not know how much humidity they liked so the other two were just sitting in regular pots & they didn't flower. So after a year, i finally looked up on the net how to solve the pr...

My First Apartment 3

Posted by Twylah Ekko on Tuesday, April 7, 2009, In : Boxes

Heres the inside of the lid - i was very pleased how the spider came out in this Raku firing. Yeah!

Today is looking up, i have just had Christmas, which is what i refer to getting a lot of pieces out of the kiln. Because i wrap them all in newspaper and then i take them and show them to family and friends and when we do this we unwrap them all, and its like Christmas.

My First Apartment 2

Posted by Twylah Ekko on Monday, April 6, 2009, In : Boxes

I had a hard time deciding which to post first the inside so you could see the spider or the outside so you could see how cool the crackle glaze looks from the Raku firing looks. Also i was thinking that it could be a bit more fun to see what the whole box looks like.

So as i said earlier this is a little box - i really couldn't decided how to take a photo for this one, to show it off. So i placed it on a one of my many indian silk fabric skirts and let it get ready for its photo shoot. The b...

My First Apartment 1

This will be sorta a before and after shot of this particular item, which would most likely be used as a little jewlery box. I call them spring boxes b/c i make the texture on top with a spring - of which in this view you don't see. What you are seeing is the inside top of the box and i'm sanding around a spider that i placed inside. Thats why my thumb is all fuzzzzzzy b/c i'm moving.

This piece which is named My First Apartment is called this b/c in my first apartment, i had so many spiders....

Well this just goes along with how i feel anyway - yes that was a very Eeyore statement, but we all go through rough times. Now would be one of mine.

As some of you may know i was working on a pin-home camera that i made out of clay. There are a series of pictures of I See You - as it was going thru the firing process. Ahhh - Finally - that was alot of work. So this is a finished greenwear pin-hole camera. In case you forgot greenwear is only just what i consider the 1/2 way point.

I thought a final picture was needed to show you what it looks like with the top put on showing off its new button stopper/shutter.

I will be soooooo excited once i get to glaze this and fix up the metal piece that i will insert as my pin-hole. Eeeeeeeh - thats my excited noise.

Well - this one is almost all put together. I suppose i would say this was at the 1/2 way mark. It still must be bisque fired, sanded, then glazed and the final firing.

Also this little pin-hole camera got a name it's called Blinded By Beauty.

I am spinning it to make it run down the pot, which is upside-down. It should be interesting to see after it's fired b/c the runs will then be going up instead of down once the...

This would be a good time to have Supermans x-ray vision so you could see the little pot in there. I have to come back in about an hour and take the lid off to see if the magic worked :-D

At this point the anticipation is killing me. But i go inside and slip glaze another piece while i wait. So i don't have to think bout it.

So i'm standing on the side of the kiln with the camera above my head just clicking away to see if i get a good shot. B/c i don't have anything to stand on. So since i'm such a practical person its hard for me to venture out and make art sometimes for art sake. Even tho i love the idea, i mean i do want to be an art professor, so i embrace the idea of just making art to evoke a feeling. So then i thought what about a little Japanese vase, and Little Bit was born. So far it has become my favorite vase - for big or little flowers, it holds them all with just the right touch.
